It’s true that pets leave paw prints on our hearts (and windows, and floors, and every other surface they come in contact with!), but what about our Christmas trees? If your holiday décor could use a little personal touch from your favorite four-legged family member, we have just the solution for you: make a keepsake ornament! This simple DIY project is the perfect craft to complete with your pet and with only 3 ingredients, you probably already have everything you need. In just an afternoon, you will have made memories and a keepsake to treasure for years to come.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • ½ cup water

Extras:

  • Drinking straw
  • Round cookie cutter (a round drinking glass will work), or any shape you prefer
  • Acrylic paint (optional)
  • Ribbon

Directions:

Combine all ingredients thoroughly until a dough forms.

Roll out dough to approx ½-¼ inch thickness on a cookie sheet, and cut your shape out using your cookie cutter or drinking glass (this recipe makes enough for approximately 2-3 ornaments, depending upon dough thickness).

Gently press your pet’s paw in the center of your shape, being careful to lift their paw straight up when finished.

Using a straw, poke a hole at the top of the shape for hanging.

Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 200º for 2 hours.

Let cool completely.

Paint, if desired, and thread with ribbon.
