Spring Tips for Pet Owners

The weather is getting warmer and the sun is starting to stick around! Are you as excited as we are for spring? Depending on what part of the country you are in, you might be seeing flowers blossoming and green grass sprouting. You might have even sighted more neighbors out-and-about walking their four-legged friends. What a wonderful time of the year!

To help get a jump start on spring, we’ve put together a short list of to-dos to add to your spring plans. Do you have spring duties to get ready for the warmer weather? Share them on our Facebook page. We’ll be chatting about spring all week.

Spring Suggestions:

  1. Get your yard in tip-top shape. If you’ve had or have snow on the ground, it’s likely that you’ve missed a few leftover spots on the ground. Cleaning up after your dog can be hard to maintain. Now is the time to have your yard looking fresh and clean! Also, be on the look out for plants or debris that might be hazardous for your pets. You never know what’s on the ground. Give your yard a good cleaning and prepare yourself for many relaxing days outdoors!
  1. Give your pet a deep wash and/or take them to get groomed. Depending on the breed of dog you have, it might be crucial to get him or her to the groomer before the heat kicks in. A nice hair and nail cut will help your pet look and feel great. Remember to keep up on their nails. Don’t let them get too long because it could be painful for your pet. It’s time to pamper your pet after a long, hard winter!
  1. Make sure your pet has proper identification. Warmer weather means more outdoor time for many dogs and cats. It’s easy to forget a collar with proper identification, but it’s important to have something just in case. You’ve seen the “LOST PET” signs around the neighborhood and the Facebook posts pleading for help to find a beloved friend. Don’t let this happen to you. Check your pet’s ID tag to make sure it’s still readable and accurate. Is your dog or cat microchipped? If not, this might be the time to do it. If so, call the microchipping company to make sure they have the most up-to-date- information on file.
  1. It’s time for a checkup! Start the season off right with a checkup. Now is a great time to have your pet checked by a veterinarian. Winter can be hard on our pets. Make sure they are in tip-top shape! Take this time to make sure your pet is current on all vaccinations. Consider getting his or her teeth cleaned. Dental and health care is incredibly important to the life of your pet.
