Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month

Can you imagine someone being cruel to an animal? Unfortunately, it happens every day. April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. When you think about how much you love your pets and about those pets that might be suffering, it truly breaks your heart. We understand, of course, because we feel the same way.

Why are some animals treated inadequately?

Animals should never be treated poorly. You might be asking yourself these questions: Why do people treat animals this way? Is it because perhaps they don’t realize what they’re doing is wrong? Or is it because they just don’t care? The truth is: we don’t always know the answers to these questions. The best thing you can do is to lead as a positive role model and report any abuse that you witness.

What do you do if you see animal abuse?

If you know that someone is being cruel to an animal report them immediately. Call a local humane society or SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or a taxpayer-funded animal shelter (animal control). If there’s anything you can do to help prevent the abuse of animals, do so with confidence.

What can you do to help for the overall Prevention of Cruelty to Animals?

Instead of focusing on the negative things that could be happening to animals, let’s think about ways that we can improve our relationships with our pets. All animals are beautiful creatures. Dogs and cats make wonderful companion animals. They are like family to us and deserve to be treated like they are.  Love, hold and treat them as wonderful as they should be treated! Always lead by example.

The ASPCA has a few great ideas about how you can help with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, including the start of a fundraising campaign. For more ideas, click here: https://www.aspca.org/news/april-prevention-cruelty-animals-month.

What should you do if you can’t take care of your pet properly?

If you ever feel like you cannot take care of your pet, please call someone for help. Don’t be afraid to reach out to a local animal shelter. There are may ways that they can help pets and pet owners. Don’t give up. There are people out there that can help.

Take the time to think about the furry companions in your life this month. Aren’t they amazing creatures? Yes, they sure are!
