Beat the Heat With a Frozen Treat

The dog days of summer are upon us! When it comes to enjoying the summer season, there’s no better way to kick back and relax than with a frozen treat. Although Fido and Fluffy may beg to differ, we all know that ice cream isn’t the best warm weather snack to share with them. Luckily, there are plenty of simple, pet-friendly treats that you can put together in a snap. Whether you’re a dog person or a cat person (or both), we’ve got you covered.

DIY Pupsicles

These DIY pupsicles are so simple to make, we bet you already have all of the ingredients in your kitchen. A bonus? These ingredients are human palate approved, meaning this is one frozen delight you can share with your dog.

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz plain yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 3 tbsp peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)
  • 1 tbsp honey

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together until smooth.

  2. Spoon the mixture into an ice cube tray, ice cube molds, place small dollops onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. Freeze for at least 2 hours.

Frozen Fishy Pops

We can’t forget about our kitty friends! These cool treats are sure to please even the finickiest feline palates. All you need is some canned fish, water, and a blender.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of water-packed fish of your cat’s choice (you can’t go wrong with tuna!)
  • ¼ c water

Directions:

  1. Place can of fish and ¼ c water into your blender. Blend until smooth.

  2. Spoon mounds of the mixture onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.

  3. Freeze for 2 hours.
